Is tankless worth it here?
Sometimes. Tankless saves space and does not run out of hot water, but a conversion often needs a larger gas line or heavier electrical service. We check that before recommending one, because the conversion cost is usually what decides it.
How long do they last?
It varies with water quality and maintenance more than with brand. Rumbling, discoloured water, and slower recovery are the practical warning signs, and a unit showing them is worth planning around before it fails on its own schedule.
